Chapter 72 Joins Town Hall on VA Health Care

Health Care Plan

Danny Freidman, president of Vietnam Veterans of America Brooklyn Chapter 72, joined U.S. Rep. Max Rose (D-N.Y.); John Rowan, VVA national president; Lindsay Rodman, executive vice president, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America; and Kristen Rouse, president and founding director, NYC Veterans Alliance for a town hall discussion on VA health care Oct. 4.

Nurses and veterans called for an immediate end to attacks on the VA health care system and asked legislators to ensure the VA is fully staffed and funded. “A strong and fully-funded VA is critical if we are to fulfill our country’s sacred duty to care for our veterans,” perioperative nurse Elton Smith told the Black Star News.

A new report, “Retaining Effective and Sound Programs for Excellent Care and Treatment (RESPECT) for Veterans” was released to the public at the event. RESPECT for Veterans lays out the data showing that VA health care is superior to the private sector in measures such as access, quality and cost.
