Chapter 297 Takes the Kids Fishing

Girl Fishing

For the fourth consecutive year, Chapter 297 has hosted its Kid’s Fishing Tournament in Amarillo, TX .

The event was initiated 4 years ago to encourage greater interaction between veterans and the community. Since then, the tournament has seen great growth, as evidenced by hot dogs. The first year, 300 hot dogs were prepared, and today, that amount has grown to well over 600.

Another benefit of the fishing tournament is to target a group that may not be exposed to the world of fishing that is so familiar to the veterans. Many participants are being raised in single parent households, and this was their first time casting and baiting hooks.

This year, there were 3 age categories of over 60 children.

Cash prizes were awarded for accomplishments such as first catch.
