Chapter 939 Awards College Scholarships

Chapter 939 in Hays recently decided to reach out to its community in a unique way. The chapter awarded four $500 scholarships to area students. For the past seven years, the chapter has offered scholarships to high school students residing in a county with a paying VVA chapter member.

To qualify for the scholarship, each student must have three recommendations, participate in extracurricular activities and contribute his or her time to community service projects. Once the February deadline is reached, a committee of five members reviews the applications to determine the four winners. Recipients are required to submit a thank-you letter. The money is released to the student upon enrollment in school.
