New Jersey High School Honors Vietnam Veterans

This May, students at Snyder High School in Jersey City, N.J., unveiled a memorial board dedicated to Vietnam veterans in the hallway of their school. The memorial board lists the names of veterans from Jersey City who died in the Vietnam War, and according to the school’s librarian is the first memorial board of its kind in a Jersey City school.

During the presentation of the board, students spoke about the history of the Vietnam War and were joined by members of the VVA Chapter 800 of New Jersey, including a history teacher at SHS and chapter president, Joe Wisneski, who spoke about their experiences during the war. In addition, an SHS guidance counselor spoke about her brother, who also fought in the war.
