Chapter 949 Holds Annual Appreciation Picnic

Vietnam Veterans of America Tri-State Chapter 949 held its annual Military and Veterans Appreciation Picnic June 1 at Harris Riverfront Park in Huntington, W. Va. The cookout was free to all service members, veterans and guests; the event featured music the Blue Country Band, displays of military equipment, re-enactments and door prizes.

Co-sponsored by the West Virginia Marine Corps Coordinating Council and the Greater Huntington Park and Recreation District, the attracts close to 1,000 people every year and ensures veterans from all branches of the military and conflicts receive recognition and respect.

“When we came back, we were treated horribly,” chapter President Ron Wroblewski told the Herald-Dispatch. “I think the Vietnam veteran paid a price, and that price is really preventing the young generation of veterans that’s coming home today from being treated like we were.”
