Chapter 409 Honors Duesterhoeft

Vietnam Veterans of America Blackhawk Chapter 409 recently honored Jefferson County (Wis.) Veterans Service Officer Yvonne Duesterhoeft at a March 10 meeting of the Jefferson County Board of Supervisors.

Dick Schultz, a member of the Blackhawk chapter, also serves as Jefferson County Board Supervisor representing Fort Atkinson’s District No. 28. “The veterans of this county are very, very appreciative” of  Duesterhoeft’s work, he said.

Chapter member David A. Behling said Duesterhoeft has helped countless area veterans since taking the office in 2007 and presented her with a plaque. She said the honor left her speechless and that she “has the best job in the world.

“I have a special place in my heart for Vietnam veterans,” Duesterhoeft told the Watertown Daily Times. “Vietnam veterans, as a group, worked to ensure that future veterans would never again suffer the disrespect and neglect they endured returning from war. I encourage all veterans to consider belonging to one or more veterans service organizations. Our voices are stronger together.”
