Chapter 278 Helps Veteran Who Lost House to Fire

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 278 in Texarkana, Ark., recently presented Vietnam veteran Wendell Murry with a $2,000 check to tide him over after his home was destroyed by fire over Memorial Day weekend.

“That’s to get them by until the insurance company comes,” said chapter President Greg Beck. “You know — you need clothes; you need food. They lost everything.”

Murry was grateful for the assistance. “I got on one man’s shirt and another man’s britches, but I’m here,” he told ArkLaTex.com.

“[To] a lot of people, it’s lip service to thank a veteran,” Beck noted. “But then, a lot of people step up and do the job when it needs to be done, and we appreciate that.”
