Chapter 274 Sponsors Veterans Appreciation Dinner

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 274 presented a ceremony honoring military personnel who didn’t make it back from war as part of the fourth annual Veterans Appreciation Dinner held Nov. 11 in Cheboygan, Mich. Member Tracy Heath detailed the different items displayed and their significance to POW/MIA troops.

While the event commemorated the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI, emcee Sgt. Maj. Sheriff Dale Clarmont, Army Command, offered special thanks to Vietnam veterans. “They instilled in us that thing that we call honor, when they said — and their motto is — never leave a warrior behind, in memory,” he said.

Honorary tables were set up for WWII veterans, Korean War veterans and Gold Star Families. A slideshow featuring local veterans’ photos during their time in the service was shown during the dinner. In addition to VVA, the event was sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club, Lions Club and Lionesses, and the Cheboygan County Veterans Service Office.
