Welcome Home to the New Chapter 1127

Texas State Council

In late June 2017, one of VVA’s newest chapters, Chapter 1127, was installed in Columbus, TX with over 30 members.

Chapter 1127 members received their official charter in April from the Texas State Council where they join 38 VVA chapters throughout the state.

The new chapter reestablishes a veteran support organization in the city of 10,000 people. Due to the natural loss of World War II and Korean War veterans, the local VFW post had disbanded in 2015 due to low recruitment and participation.

During the installation ceremony, Columbus Mayor Dwain Dungen remarked that it was telling that World War II veterans always had stories to tell, but the stories of Vietnam veterans had been muted as a result of their treatment returning from the war.

Veterans young and old and members of the Columbus community welcomed home the Vietnam veterans with enthusiasm and gratitude.
