Chapter 596 Donates to Veterans Home in Knoxville

Edward G. Sharpe Chapter 596 in Cleveland joined in efforts with members of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 25 to improve the Ben Atchley Tennessee State Veterans Home in Knoxville.

Together the two groups donated $3, 000 to the home to purchase a specialized sink for the barber shop that makes it easier for people who are in wheelchairs to get their hair washed and to get their haircut.

Rather than a traditional barber’s sink, this specialized sink has the capability to rise up and down, pull away from the wall and tilt. These functions will make many veterans’ lives a lot easier.

The entire cost of the sink was around $5, 000. Following a visit to the home during Christmas, both the VVA Chapter and the DAV group realized that the home needed help with the funds for the sink.

Following the $3, 000 donation, the facility begun a fundraiser for the remaining amount.
