Bridge Named for Veteran Killed in Vietnam War

Chapter 196

A bridge in Amherst County, Virginia was named the Roger Lee Floyd Memorial Bridge in honor of the fallen Vietnam veteran. 

The Amherst County Board of Supervisors joined members of the community, local veterans, and members of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church for a dedication ceremony on November 12, 2017 memorializing Roger Lee Floyd who was killed in action on November 12, 1965 in Vietnam.

Floyd was deployed on October 16, 1965 as a private first class with the First Infantry Division of the U.S. Army. He was killed a month later at 23 years of age.

For his heroism in ground combat, Floyd was posthumously awarded a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star Medal.

Otto Davis of VVA Chapter 196 was one of the veterans in attendance for the bridge dedication and he called Floyd a hero.
