Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 17 reports its headquarters location in Las Vegas has been hit repeatedly by burglars, who have stolen clothing, wheelchairs and other donations intended for needy veterans. “They’ve taken scooters. Electric scooters. They’ve taken batteries,” member Andy Leduc told Channel 3 News.
The thieves also apparently stole surveillance cameras, so there is no video record of the crimes, which vets suspect have been perpetrated by more than one individual. “The thought of these people stealing stuff that is supposed to go to veterans — especially disabled veterans — is heartbreaking,” said member Mike Mattingly. “We don’t want to run an armed camp here.”
