Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 12‘s Play HOOK-e members volunteered to support special needs children aged 6 to 16 at the third annual Wish’n to go Fish’n Outdoor Fun Day at Lake Julianna in Millstone Township, N.J., on Sept.  28.

The free catch-and-release event features a cookout lunch, prizes, games and more, providing a psychological boost for special needs children and their caregivers. “Making Smiles” was this year’s theme, and more than 100 children attended. Disabled veterans were on hand to help the children fish.

“I am very excited to host this worthwhile event for special needs children once again,” said Vito Cardinale, owner of Lake Julianna and the Ponderosa Estate Farm. “It’s amazing how veterans gather together to make a fishing program a success and give back to help others in need.”

Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Manasquan River Marlin and Tuna Club, Jersey Shore Surfcasters, Newark Bait and Fly Casting Club, New Jersey Beach Buggy Association, Hudson River Fishermen’s Association, and Monmouth & Ocean All-Star Baseball also participated in the event.
