Chapter 1113 to Renovate, Reopen Golf Course

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1113 will soon transform a golf course in Memphis, Tenn., into a “safe haven” for veterans and their families. Formerly operated by Memphis Athletic Ministries, the course will be outfitted to be more accessible.

“Veterans and their families can come here and be in an atmosphere that is accommodating for their unique set of circumstances,” chapter President Leonard Perkins told WMC-TV.

Toles and Associates Engineers will donate its services to add cart paths and carts to the nine-hole golf course. The chapter plans to continue to provide youth services at the course, as well as new offerings such as equine therapy.

The chapter will rename the course the All Veterans Golf Plex in order to welcome veterans of all U.S. conflicts. “I know when I came back from Vietnam it wasn’t a welcoming thing for us, and we took that to heart,” Toles and Associates president James Toles said.
