Chapter 566 Member Throws out First Pitch

VVA Michael F. Bradley Chapter 566 member Joe Lusardi threw out the ceremonial first pitch at a New York Mets spring training home game at First Data Field in Port St. Lucie in March. A Navy veteran, Lusardi served two tours in Vietnam 1965–1968, and was honored as a “Hometown Hero” during the game. For the last four spring training seasons, the Hometown Hero program has honored an area veteran at the start of every home game. Veteran Daryl Bowie of VFW Post 318 in Port St. Lucie, his employer, A&G Pools, and the Mets sponsor the program. “It might be one guy or gal throwing that first ball, but they represent all veterans,” Bowie told TCPalm. “We want to recognize and honor every one of them.”
