Chapter 1108 Donates Quilts to Local VA

Quilt

Appalachian Mavericks Chapter 1108, which was chartered in 2015 in Union, WV, works with AVVA and a local JROTC to receive and distribute quilts made from members of the community.

Members of the Monroe County community make quilts, afghans, and bed socks, and donate the items to Chapter 1108. Diane Fischer, the chapter’s AVVA president, facilitates the distribution of the quilts to patients at the Beckley VA Medical Center.

Most recently, the chapter made a donation of 60 items at Beckley VAMC.

Members of JROTC at James Monroe High School assist AVVA in the distribution efforts. During their distribution time with the veterans, they are also exposed to tales of vivid war stories. The students aid in the recovery of the veterans with colorful stories of current day adolescent life.

Other activities that Chapter 1108 has engaged in since it’s chartering includes running a VVA float in local parades, hosting BBQs, bocce games, and horseshoes, while supporting veterans from all wars.
