Veterans Book Workshop

Although it may seem aimed at the current generation of war veterans, the Veterans Book Workshop, which works with veterans and their families to create paperback books using their war images, illustrations and writings, is open to veterans of all wars, including Vietnam veterans.

The brainchild of  Monica Haller, who worked with an Iraq War veteran to produce his book, Riley and His Story , the project has received support from  the Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. Haller is  running Veterans Book Workshops in cities across the country. In addition to editorial guidance, laptops, scanners and funding are provided to veterans who participate, along with a copy of the book they create.

The organizers are looking for spaces to run the workshops and for help in recruiting participants in the Washington, D.C., area. If you are interested, contact Amanda Lovelee, the project manager at  Project Manager at veteransbookproject@gmail.com

If you do, please tell her your read about the project in Vietnam Veterans of America’s Arts of War on the Web page.
