Memorial Day Weekend Kick Off with wear blue: run to remember (25 May | 5:30 PM)
On Thursday, 25 May, wear blue: run to remember, will host a Circle of Remembrance and run/walk (1 or 3 mile courses), in partnership with the White House Staff at The Ellipse. During this moving event, we will honor hundreds of fallen service members followed by purposeful steps of active remembrance.
Please come and be part of what it looks like to never forget. All are welcome, so please share this invitation far and wide.
On Memorial Day Americans remember those who have died in military service to the United States. The National Moment of Remembrance is an annual event that asks all citizens, wherever they are at 3 p.m. (local time), to pause for a duration of one minute in silent tribute to the men and women who have honorably served in uniform and to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.
The 4th annual Taps Across America will again honor those military members. At 3 p.m. on Memorial Day, thousands of participants will be spread out across our nation to sound the 24 notes of our most solemn bugle call –Taps.
Buglers and trumpeters, along with other instrumentalists, will sound the call from their front porch, on their apartment balcony, in the driveway, on the sidewalk, and at cemeteries and memorials to make sure this musical tribute is given to those who, as President Abraham Lincoln put it, gave the last full measure of devotion.
Memorial Day is a time to reflect on the service and sacrifice of our fallen military heroes. We ask all Americans to join us in paying tribute to these individuals.
This year, anyone, anywhere can help in the creation of a special digital portion of the Poppy Wall of Honor by using the hashtag #PoppyInMemory and uploading a photo on Twitter or Instagram of a loved one who has served and sacrificed. The photograph will then be included as part of a composite image of military member photos displayed across a background field of poppies.
Visit the USAA Poppy Wall of Honor on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., or visit the Poppy Exhibits at the USS Lexington Museum in Corpus Christi, TX or at the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach, VA.
Active or retired military, veterans, USAA members and USAA employees will receive FREE admission to the Military Aviation Museum May 26 -May 29 with valid form of identification. Outside of Memorial Day weekend, USAA is offering those eligible a 50% discount on ticket admission price to the museum, while supplies last, to see the Poppy Exhibit.
