Allen J. Manuel was elected to his ninth consecutive term as Region 7 Director at VVA’s 18th National Convention in New Orleans, La.
Manuel served in the U.S. Army from 1956–66, completing a tour in Korea and two tours in Germany.
A member of VVA since 1992, Manuel has served in several leadership positions, including treasurer of Chapter 632 in Ville Platte, La., and vice president of the Louisiana State Council. He was elected to the VVA National Board of Directors in 1999, and has served on the VVA National Finance Committee and the VVA National Veterans Incarcerated Committee for eight years.
Manuel is also a member of the Veterans Against Drugs Committee. He sits on the Advisory Board of the VA Medical Center in Alexandria, La., and as a member of Incarcerated Chapter 689, is an advocate for veterans incarcerated in Louisiana state prisons and elsewhere.
He has received numerous awards in recognition of his dedication to fellow veterans, including VVA’s Achievement Medal in 2002 and the organization’s highest honor, the VVA Commendation Medal, in 2007. He has also received the Chapel of Four Chaplains’ Legion of Honor Award.
Manuel retired from Amoco after 24 years and lives in Ville Platte. He and his wife, Norma, have been married for 60 years. Together, they had six children (five of whom are still living), 14 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren.Send Email
