July/August 2021 | The VVA Veteran

In this issue:

For more than a year most VVA chapter activities have come to a standstill. But now, as the pandemic restrictions are being lifted, this issue of The VVA Veteran concentrates on recruitment and retention. The three most recent Membership Affairs Committee Chairs—representing twenty years of leadership—describe the plans and programs they advocated to raise VVA’s visibility and encourage Vietnam veterans to join. In addition, five chapters of different sizes and in different regions describe how they instituted award-winning programs to recruit and retain members.

There’s info on a new Vietnam veterans memorial in Morgan County, West Virginia, and a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall that was dedicated in Fall River, Massachusetts. Part of Rochester, New York’s Highland Park has been renamed in honor of VVA’s Gary Beikirch; and in Austin, Texas, high school students interviewed Vietnam veterans remotely. In Parting Shot, the former photo editor of The Philadelphia Inquirer describes how his photographic journey began during his service in Vietnam.

And much more…
