BY CAROL BAKER, CHAIR
The Veterans Health Care Committee met on April 13 during the Board of Directors quarterly meeting. Committee meetings are open to all VVA members and are held on Friday evenings from 4:30 till 6:30. If you are interested in attending, please contact the committee chair or the VVA national office for additional information.
PTSD Committee Chair Tom Hall presented a survey regarding Vet Centers. The Committee voted to support the distribution of the survey. Reports also were presented by the following committees: Agent Orange & Toxic Exposures—Maynard Kaderlik, Chair; Homeless Veterans—Sandy Miller, Chair; and Women Veterans—Kate O’Hare-Palmer, Chair. The Veterans Health Council also presented, and Linda Schwartz presented a health study survey.
The committee discussed the survey and agreed to support it being distributed electronically to VVA members. The Chair discussed the 2019 budget, which includes funds for a consultant to speak to the committee. The committee also approved presenting a seminar, “Getting Ready for the Rest of Your Life,” at the National Leadership & Education Conference. The presentation will include medical and psychological preparations for individuals and families as they age and prepare for the future.
The VVA website and the Health Care Committee portion of the website were discussed, and recommendations were made. Two new members, Maynard Kaderlik and Pat Bessigano, were added to the committee. I look forward to the committee becoming more active and involved.
