Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 82 placed a wreath in front of The Wall That Heals during the opening ceremonies of its Nassau County (N.Y.) appearance on Aug. 29.
The American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, Vietnam War Veterans Association, Agent Orange Awareness, Nassau County Military Order of the Purple Heart, Nassau County Veterans Service Agency, Jewish War Veterans, and other organizations also participated in the event.
Rolling Thunder, the American Legion Riders, the Fire Riders, the Leathernecks, and the Patriot Guard Riders formed a motorcade to escort the Wall to town; all riders preceding the Wall’s Mobile Education Center were boots-on-the-ground Vietnam veterans.
Weekend observances included a Friday night Candlelight Vigil. The Wall was on display 24/7 through closing ceremonies on Sunday, Sept. 1.
