Nevada Veterans Services Names Dickinson Veteran of the Month

Vietnam Veterans of America Sierra Nevada Chapter 989‘s Linda Dickinson was named September’s Veteran of the Month by the Nevada Department of Veterans Services (NVDS) in recognition of her service to fellow veterans. Dickinson served in the U.S. Air Force Nurse Corps during the Vietnam War, and ran the chapter as commander for four years.

Gov. Steve Sisolak spoke highly of Dickinson during a ceremony at the state capitol building. “She continues to support various local veterans organizations,” he said. “Linda has had a strong presence at the helm of VVA 989, which contributes to the community in a number of ways.”

Sisolak cited VVA 989’s support of the opening of the new Northern Nevada State Veterans Home in Sparks. During Dickinson’s tenure as president, he added, Chapter 989 had a successful Vietnam War Veterans Remembrance Day, helped fund the Adopt a Vet dental program, funded scholarships, and more.

“I am very seldom speechless,” Dickinson said.” I am truly humbled and honored with this dedication and this award.”
