The Reno Aces baseball team, the AAA affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, honored area veterans Aug. 3 with its annual Military Appreciation Night. As part of the festivities, the team dedicated a stadium seat to POW/MIAs with Vietnam Veterans of America’s Sierra Nevada Chapter 989.
“We’ve asked the league for an inning extension in the seventh,” Aces General Manager Emily Jaenson told the Nevada Appeal ahead of the event. “We’ll set up all the flags, introduce guests, stop the game and read a plaque. Then we’ll sing ‘God Bless America’ going into the seventh-inning stretch.”
Chapter President J.R. Stafford approached the Aces about dedicating a seat at Greater Nevada Field. “The Aces were very gracious wanting to do that,” he said. The chair is located in section 118, and recognizes veterans captured by the enemy or declared missing in action.
