Chapter 9 Participates in Detroit Parade

American FlagVietnam Veterans of America Detroit Chapter 9 manned floats in the city’s Memorial Day parade May 27. A military truck, the South Vietnamese Veterans and the Thu Duc Military Academy Alumni Association of Michigan also marched in the parade, part of a full day of veterans’ events.

“We place a wreath at our own memorial and head to the K of C for a similar ceremony,” chapter member and VFW Post 6691 representative Mike Sand said. “Some of our members visit retirement homes and pay our respects to the Korean and World War II vets who are still with us. They retire to the post for a luncheon under a 25-by-40-foot American flag. Then, we go home and take a nap.”
