Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 899, the Bordentown (N.J.) Veterans Advisory Committee and Homiak Transport Inc. recently spearheaded a holiday food drive that donated about 10,000 pounds of food to active-duty and retired military personnel Dec. 18.
“When I started asking for help, I couldn’t believe how many people came out of the woodwork,” Bryan Branson, Bordentown Township Veterans Advisory Committee chairman, told CentralJersey.com. “So many people donated; 90% of the food came from the VVA.”
The effort not only helps those in need during the holidays, he added, it makes its participants feel good. “When you give back, you feel better,” Branson said. “You reach a point in your life where you can now shed the guilt of Vietnam and become a part of society.”
