Retired Capt. Ken Morris and other U.S. Coast Guard veterans served as Grand Marshals in the third annual Southeast North Carolina Veterans Day Parade in downtown Wilmington. Capt. Morris is one of only about 8,000 Coast Guard personnel to serve in Vietnam and is member of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 885.
Capt. Morris is training to be an accredited disability claims agent with the chapter. “I know that a lot of [veterans] are coming down with serious conditions that are related to exposure to Agent Orange,” he told the Wilmington Star-News. “I myself had prostate cancer and two heart attacks in my 50s. They have been presumptively connected to exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam. I’m helping others in the same situation.”
