Chapter 866’s Tyrell Named Springfield Veteran of the Year

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 111 and Chapter 866 member Richard J. Tyrell was named the Springfield (Mass.) Veteran of the Year. The Veteran of the Year Award is given every year to a Springfield veteran resident who continuously volunteers to better the community without seeking recognition for the work they have done.

“Tyrell is a Marine combat veteran and Purple Heart recipient who tirelessly dedicates his time to fellow veterans,” Charly Lawrence, deputy director of the Springfield Veterans’ Activities Committee, told WWLP-TV. “Additionally, his community volunteerism includes past chairman of Springfield’s Veterans Activities Committee, The Marine Corps League, the Disabled American Veterans and more.”
