Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 805 will exhibit its Oregon Memorial Traveling Wall inside the Oregon Coast Military Heritage Museum in Florence this week in conjunction with Pearl Harbor Day observances.

The local fire department, Florence police, and U.S. Coast Guard Station Siuslaw River will escort the exhibit into town on Dec. 7, where it will be available for viewing through Dec. 9.

The wall is a 24-by-8-foot replica of the national Vietnam War Memorial engraved with the names of the service men and women who died in Vietnam. Additional panels list the names of those lost in more recent U.S. conflicts.

Museum officials were enthused about the visit. “If someone has ever heard, or recalls, how our nation’s Vietnam vets were treated when they returned home, it is long overdue to honor them with more respect,” museum executive director Cal Applebee told the Coos Bay World.
