Chapter 789 in Hinesville, GA organized a grand event to show appreciation to the Vietnam veterans of Georgia.
Georgia is commemorating the 50th anniversary of the war, and Gov. Nathan Deal was on hand to distribute certificates of honor to the 87 veterans present.
The Georgia Department of Veterans Services has worked with the governor’s office to distribute more than 14, 000 certificates at over 200 ceremonies like the one in Hinesville. They have also distributed 11, 000 lapel pins inscribed with “Vietnam War Veteran”.
They hope to honor and recognize each of the 234, 000 Vietnam veterans in Georgia.
The appreciation ceremony featured a color guard, singing of the National Anthem, posters outlining the timeline of the war, and displays with local Vietnam veteran photos. Additionally, Gov. Deal issued a proclamation that was read out loud.
