Chapter 528 Celebrates Veterans Day

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 528 President John Spencer cohosted a Veterans Day ceremony Nov. 11 at Veterans Memorial Park in downtown Plymouth, Mich., alongside local American Legion and VFW posts.

“Veterans Day commemorates the courage and patriotism of all the men and women who have served in the United States armed services,” Frank Pawelak of American Legion Post 391 told the crowd. “It was originally called Armistice Day and was created to celebrate the end of the fighting in World War I.”

VVA, VFW, the American Legion and the Plymouth-Ann Arbor Elks gave presentations on the veterans programs they spearhead. Lt. Col. Krista A. McKinley, a 1992 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, was the event’s keynote speaker.
