Allan Hoffman, past president of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 272 and a former news anchor with WNCT-9, spoke Nov. 7 at Pitt Community College’s PCC Veterans Salute in Winterville, N.C. The 22nd annual salute paid tribute to the country’s military personnel in honor of Veterans Day.
Hoffman was a combat helicopter pilot with the Army’s 170th Assault Helicopter Company during the Vietnam War. He flew more than 2,000 missions and received the Distinguished Flying Cross (for valor), Purple Heart, Bronze Star (for valor), Air Medal (for valor) and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry.
Hoffman has been a vocal advocate of veterans’ issues with VVA and as a member of the media. He is also a two-time past president of the North Carolina Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association.
