Chapter 203 Participates in Hat Ceremony

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 203 recently presented the colors at a POW/MIA Hat Ceremony held in the Lookout Valley neighborhood of Chattanooga, Tenn. A salute to veterans on was held Nov. 1 at the Lookout Valley Elementary School.

The Lookout Valley Neighborhood Association placed crosses and shields to honor veterans on nearby roads, and the featured speaker was 1st Lt. J.L. “Bud” Alley, a veteran of the U.S. Army who received the Silver Star for valor for courage at la Drang Valley in Vietnam in 1965. Alley is the author of The Ghost of the Green Grass, which details the battle and was available for purchase.

The event was open to all, and veterans in attendance were asked to wear an old uniform, medals, hat, shirt, or jacket to show the branch of the armed services in which they served.
