Veterans of America Chapter 1129 joined a Cheatham County (Tenn.) Veterans Day ceremony in November, announcing that it is nearly ready to break ground on a new Veterans Memorial Park. The county granted the chapter a 99-year lease on 1.6 acres of land in Ashland City for the park in 2018.
“We want it to be a place that if you’ve lost someone that you can go talk to them, be with them,” chapter member John Nichols told the Tennessean. The goal is to make it a “memorial that the whole state of Tennessee can be proud of.”
The event also included short speeches from Cheatham County Mayor Kerry McCarver, U.S. Sen. Kerry Roberts (R-25th), State Rep. Mary Littleton (R-78th) and others. “The contribution of our veterans cannot be overstated,” Roberts said.
