Members of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1095 in Delaware, Ohio, recently spent the day visiting the nation’s war memorials in Washington, D.C., with Honor Flight Columbus. The organization regularly flies the area’s senior veterans to the capital to help honor their service.
Several veterans said that the Honor Flight helped them recover from the sting of antiwar protests they felt so many years ago upon returning to the United States. “You know, it was terrible,” chapter member Mike Carter told the The Delaware Gazette. “It’s a huge difference in what the attitude is now. People come up to me now and say, ‘Thank you for your service.’”
