Chapter 1073 Packs Duffels for Homeless Vets

In December, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1073 in Morristown, Tenn., assembled homemade duffel bags with toiletries for homeless veterans at the Mountain Home Veterans Administration Medical Center in Johnson City.

The hand-sewn bags — made of donated canvas — contained toiletry items, clothing, first aid supplies, a poncho, socks, personal hygiene items and underwear. The chapter delivered them to the home to distribute at Christmas.

“This is a program that we started more than five years ago,” member Robert Russell told the Citizen Tribune. “We manufacture the bags ourselves and gather the goodies up. We’re producing duffel bags for homeless veterans, but we’re not giving up on any of them.”
