Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1044 in Biddeford, Maine, has been holding Soup and Sandwich Saturdays since September. Featuring homemade food, the weekly socials have been increasing interest in chapter participation. Chapter membership has grown by almost 50 members to 175 since last year.
“This is a place veterans can come and talk to each other,” Conrad Letellier, the chapter’s recording secretary and membership chairman, told the Journal Tribune.
A recent menu featured sausage-and-pepper and Monte Christo sandwiches and French onion and chicken-and-dumpling soup. A $5 donation goes to the chapter. The chapter holds Soup and Sandwich Saturdays at its headquarters inside the the American Legion Post 26 in Biddeford.
