Chapter 1036 Helps Host Lt. Dan Band

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1036 and Villagers for Veterans joined to support a Florida appearance by Gary Sinise’s Lt. Dan Band thanking veterans and first responders. The Oct. 28 concert at Lake Sumter (Fla.) Landing was sponsored by the Gary Sinise Foundation, which raises $30 million annually to help build homes for disabled veterans.

Sinise played Lt. Dan Taylor, a Vietnam veteran, in 1994’s Forrest Gump. After visiting hospitals as the actor identified with the role, “I found the story resonated with the present-day wounded, and especially Vietnam veterans,” he told The Villages Daily Sun. “I want to promote the positive message of serving our country, coming home from combat and moving on with life, the way Lt. Dan did in that movie.”
