Chapter 1030 Stages Veterans Day Event

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1030 organized a Veterans Day event with other Cumming, Ga., veterans organizations Nov. 11, helping create an “Avenue of Flags” as part of a communitywide celebration.

The ceremony included patriotic music from several student choirs, an honor guard from the Forsyth County Fire and Sheriff Department, and comments from Mayor Troy Brumbalow. Children in attendance gave handwritten letters to veterans thanking them for their service.

“They’re the next generation of leaders, and it’s important that they understand this day and want to be involved in honoring veterans,” Brig. Gen. Thomas H. Blackstock Jr., director of the Joint Staff of the Georgia National Guard, told WXIA-TV.
