Chapter 1015 Recognizes Color Guard

Vietnam Veterans of America Plateau Chapter 1015 celebrated Christmas on Dec. 10 with a dinner party at the Thunderbird Recreation Center in Crossville, Tenn., recognizing members of the chapter color guard with certificates of appreciation.

The Color Guard performs ceremonies such as flag folding and flag retirement, and posts colors for county events throughout the year. The guard also sets up “Missing Man” tables at veteran events to remember those in the military who never made it home from service.

Receiving certificates for their participation in the PCVVA color guard for 2018 were Russ Surbrook, Jim Ernst, Ernie Wilson, Sam Cogswell, Bill Hinkley, Cecil Smith, Gary Thorp, Dave Seay, Don Nuhfer, Dan Senters, Ron French and Bob Aanerud. French and Aanerud were unable to attend the annual PCVVA Christmas party.

“I’m so proud of these guys and the commitment they’ve made,” chapter President Bob Opthof told the Grossville Chronicle. “If there is an event that comes up, they’re there.”
