Chapter 1002 Leads St. Patrick’s Day Parade

More than 50 members of Vietnam Veterans of America Wallkill Valley Vernon Chapter 1002 led the 16th annual Sussex County St. Patrick’s Day Parade as Grand Marshals on March 16 in Newton, N.J. The parade lasted more than an hour, featuring first responders, dancers, local politicians, marching bands and floats.

The chapter has been instrumental in supporting veterans throughout the area, according to John Brady, first vice president, hosting weekly meetings to assist local veterans in seeking benefits. The chapter also oversees the Northern New Jersey Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Sparta.

Crowds dressed in green lined Main Street to enjoy the parade in spite of snow flurries. “This was a nice crowd and nice showing of the community to come out and enjoy the parade,” paradegoer Dan Finkle told the New Jersey Herald.
