Treasurer

Wayne Reynolds

Treasurer

I am seeking to be reelected as Your National Treasurer. I promise to continue to be dedicated and to communicate with each member. I will be accessible and committed to each member’s needs. In my past terms as YOUR National Treasurer, I was determined to identify additional resources for VVA and insure all our funds were spent wisely. We need to increase the percentage of our expenditures spent on services to members. I am decisive and understand my role and responsibilities emphasize service to YOU. I will be diligent in working with other Officers, Board of Directors, and State Councils.

During my terms as National Treasurer I fulfilled my promise to be transparent in my actions. I was very active in Contract Compliance and had a very busy term doing so. My work for VVA included working on our relationship with our contractors. Soon after becoming Treasurer, I discovered significant problems with our implementation of the information technology project.  After an analysis and report were presented to the BOD, we instituted changes to save VVA large amounts of money. I was assigned tasks to work closely in the oversight of our Information Technology and Finance Departments.

I am a member of the Council of State Council Presidents and support their role in leadership of VVA.  Vietnam Veterans of America is a vibrant 501c19, and I support its continuation and growth. I believe each member of VVA is entitled to honest and complete disclosure of the business of VVA. My cell phone number is published, and I respond to the membership. I also support AVVA as a partner in service to veterans.

PERSONAL LIFE: Married to Carol Reynolds for 51 years. Father of two children (Paige is a DOD Engineer and Wesley is an Air Force veteran and serves as a Neurologist in Denver). We have two grandchildren. I am the oldest of 12 children, and my father was a World War II and Korean War Veteran. I receive VA 90 percent disability payments and still have a VA claim on appeal.

PAST VVA and MILITARY SERVICE: I am a Life Member of VVA and have served as your National Treasurer from August 2011 until 2019. I did not seek reelection due to an Agent Orange-related Leukemia. Thank God, I am healthy now. I was also the National Treasurer from 2001 to 2003. I have been Alabama State President since 1998 and also served for three years as President of Chapter 511 in Athens, Alabama. I served in Vietnam with the 95th Evacuation Hospital and 22nd Surgical Hospital in 1968-69. I served as a member and officer of the Vietnam Veterans Assistance Fund, a 501c3, for several years. I assisted in raising funds to assist the Service Officer Program and other VVA-supported projects.

EDUCATION AND EMPLOYMENT: a Master’s Degree in Finance from the University of Georgia and a Doctor of Education Degree from Auburn University. I am a retired Public School Superintendent, and I am a Registered Nurse. I am an elected member of the Alabama State Board of Education representing District 8. For 20 years I was the owner and CEO of my own business.

VVA NATIONAL SERVICE: has included the following National VVA Committee memberships: Finance, Public Affairs, Veterans Healthcare, PTSD and Substance Abuse, VVA Constitution, Employment Training and Business, and Veterans Affairs. I also am a former Secretary of the Conference of State Council Presidents.

I have been awarded the Bronze Medallion by the Chapel of the Four Chaplains. VVA has awarded me the Commendation Medal and the Achievement Medal. I was the Alabama Veteran of the Year in 2003.

I ask for your support and vote at our National Convention, so that I can continue to serve at the National level in Vietnam Veterans of America.
