Region 9 Director

Dick Southern

Region 9 Director

My name is Dick Southern, and I am seeking reelection as the VVA Region 9 Director. I served in the Army as a Specialist 4 and a Hospital Ward Technician in B Co., 5th Medical Battalion, Support Command, 5th Infantry Division (Mech.), from July 1966 to January 1968. I have been a member of VVA since 1996. I am a Life member of VVA. I was elected Secretary of Chapter 391 in 1997 and still serve in that office.

I have been a California State Council delegate to the last ten VVA Conventions. I was elected to the office of the California State Council President in June 2002 and then to Second Vice President in 2004 and still serve in that office. I have served on the VVA National Membership Affairs Committee since 2001 and have been the chair of the Membership Affairs Committee since 2019. I have been a member of the VVA National Veterans Benefits Committee since 2005. I was the National Resolutions Committee chair from 2013 to 2019. I was elected Region 9 Director in 2007.

I will continue to bring input from Region 9 to the National Board of Directors and let the members in Region 9 have a more active role in the decisions that are made. I strongly believe that “Communication is the key.”

Over the years I have worked with the state councils and chapters in the six Southwestern States as well as Hawaii, the Philippines, and Guam. I have made visits on a regular basis to all of the state councils and the chapters that have no state council. The members in the region know that I am always available to answer their emails and telephone calls. We communicate often and solve issues together.

I am asking for your vote and promise that you will continue to have an advocate for the many issues of Vietnam Veterans of America with me as your Region 9 Director.

Thank you.
