Region 1 Director

Skip Hochreich

Region 1 Director

I joined the Army in July 1965, took basic and AIT at Ft. Dix, N.J. Afterward, I was assigned to the 86th Combat Engineer Bn. The battalion shipped to Vietnam on the U.S.S Gen. Weigel in October 1966. We were stationed in the Mekong Delta in III and IV Corps with the 1st Inf. Div. Some of our duties were working with the infantry “bustin’ brush,” clearing jungle with Cat dozers fit with “Rome Plows” for LZs and fire bases. My last few months I was with the 11th ACR in Tay Ninh province. I returned home in October 1967 and ETS’s from Ft. Devens, Mass., in July 1968.

Around 1982 we chartered Chapter 111 in Springfield, Mass., and attended the dedication of The Wall in D.C. Around 2004 we took over Chapter 866 in Springfield and brought it out of a long suspension and back into the VVA fold.

I served as chapter president for two terms before becoming state council president. The new accountants I hired balanced the books and the state council moved forward. Today it is in great financial shape and very active.

In 2017 I became Region 1 Director.

I created our first website for the region, vvama.org and webmaster. July of 2018, we hosted the first regional conference held in several years. Plans being make now for another conference this summer.

I look forward to another term as Region 1 Director with your vote.
