Chapter 989 Begins Scholarship Fundraising

Chapter 989 Honor Guard

Sierra Nevada Chapter 989 has begun raising money for scholarships in Reno, NV

Over the last four years, the chapter has awarded over $21,000 in college scholarships to veterans returning to Western Nevada College, Truckee Meadows Community College, Sierra Nevada College, and University of Nevada-Reno.

The chapter hopes to have $1000 for each of the schools by the end of 2017. At the start of the Spring 2018 semester, the scholarships will be distributed directly to the veterans. Each college’s student veteran club establishes criteria for the selection of winners.

Chapter 989 has set up a GoFundMe page to assist in the fundraising efforts.

The chapter works with other service organizations conducting various outreach activities in the community while spreading the word about veterans concerns and needs. They maintain a high level of activity throughout the community with participation in events such as a Stand Down for Homeless Veterans, Honor Flights, Film Presentations, Gun Shows, Parades, etc. Their honor guard has volunteered at numerous flag ceremonies.
