VVA Southwest Montana Chapter 788 assisted in raising money for a computer kiosk to help direct visitors at the Vietnam Memorial Wall replica in Bozeman, Mont.
Vietnam veteran Don Derby had an idea in 2006 to have a computer at the Sunset Hills Cemetery to help those looking for loved ones among the 58,479 names of veterans on the Wall, and of the 16,000 graves, including 2,400 veterans. On November 29th, Derby revealed the computer kiosk to a group of veterans and explained its features.
The $20,000 computer kiosk was funded by veterans Derby and Dallas Thompson, the Sunset Hills Cemetery Veterans Memorial Fund, the local chapter of the American Legion, city cemetery staff, and Chapter 788.
The kiosk sits under a stone shelter near the veterans memorials at the cemetery. The Wall is a replica of the memorial located in Washington, D.C.
Prior to the computer kiosk, only a few books were available to guide visitors throughout the cemetery and veterans memorials.
