Chapter 351 of Appleton shares life stories with Eau Claire students

Recent reporting from WQOW News 18, Vietnam veterans are sharing their lives with Eau Claire students by telling war stories.

The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 351 of Appleton came to Chippewa Valley Technical College Tuesday and brought along equipment and clothing they used during the war.

Veterans spoke about the challenges they faced when they returned from the war, which included protests and negativity towards them.

“It helps them cope a little bit better with some of the things they did over there, and they just enjoy the student contacts. We just feel real passion for sharing what happened over there with students. So, my main cause is so something like this doesn’t happen again,” said John Koehler, the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 351 coordinator.

The group has been sharing war stories with students since the 1980s.
