Chapter 1062 Members Serve Fellow Veterans

Doug Sabo and Bruce Ellis of Chapter 1062 of Lincoln County have found a way to serve fellow retired veterans.

Sabo and Ellis have chosen to embody the VVA motto, “Never again will one generation of veterans abandon another.” Together, this duo spends their time and money transporting veterans in their local community to and from veteran and medical services. These two men also do their best to help these veterans receive their disability and benefits as much as possible.

In Albuquerque, there is no public bus system, nor are there transportation services offered by the National Veterans Administration or the New Mexico State Veterans Office.

Fortunately, the Southeast New Mexico Transportation Network of Roswell has donated a van specifically for the purpose of transporting veterans. Sabo drives veterans to appointments in this van. He reports that he and Ellis are available 24-hours a day to help people get where they need to go. They do this at no charge.

No part of their local VVA chapter’s budget goes toward this service. However, Sabo and Ellis know that some of the veterans are living on tight budgets, if they have them at all. They hope to provide this service on their own dime, and with the help of fundraisers, as long as they are able.
