Xuc May (Never Happen) by Gary Pool | Books in Review

Gary Pool’s Xuc May (Never Happen) (372 pp., $24, paper) is a memoir centering on the author’s tour of duty in Vietnam with the Army’s 3rd Ordinance Battalion’s EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) unit. As Pool puts it, the book is “a long rambling narrative for the sole purpose of massaging my old ego in an effort to recapture my youth.”
