Vietnam War ‘Summit’ at LBJ Library

The LBJ President Library and the University of Texas at Austin are hosting what they’re calling “The Vietnam War Summit ” April 26-28. This “summit” will feature appearances by some big names in the Vietnam War world. That includes Secretary of State John Kerry, who served in Brown Water Navy in Vietnam, who will be doing the Keynote Address, and the one and only Henry Kissinger, who masterminded American Vietnam War policy during the Nixon Administration as Secretary of State and National Security Adviser, as well as former Sen. Bob Kerrey, who received the Medal of Honor for his actions as a Navy SEAL in the Vietnam War, former Sen. Chuck Robb, who served with the U.S. Marines in Vietnam, and Jan Scruggs, who spearheaded the effort to build the Vietnam Veterans Memorial

Also participating will be Vietnam’s Ambassador to the United States Pham Qunag Vinh , famed antiwar activist Tom Hayden, former war correspondents Peter Arnett, Joe Galloway, and Dan Rather, authors David Maraniss and Joe Klein, and war photographers Nick Ut and David Hume Kennerly.

“Our goal, ” the conference organizers say, “is to shed a definitive light on the war, and its lessons and legacy. It is also our intent to invite, include, and recognize the men and women who courageously served in Vietnam.”
